The City of Goshen Environmental Resilience Department provides support and coordination to other City government departments. As Communities look for ways to improve resiliency and adapt to climate change, it is important to recognize that every community has different vulnerabilities and also opportunities. The Department works to identify areas of climate change vulnerability and develop climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.  The goal is to increase the City’s ability to respond and prepare for the risks the City may face as a result of the changing climate—increased heat and changes in precipitation amounts and patterns.

To become a more resilient city, the Environmental Resilience Department has developed its first Climate Action Plan for Government Operations. The plan has been adopted by City of Goshen Board of Public Works and Safety and can be seen by clicking on the image below:

The Government Climate Action Plan includes:

• An inventory of existing emissions,
• Emissions reduction goals and targets,
• Identification of potential climate change vulnerabilities,
• Development of appropriate strategies to mitigate those vulnerabilities,
• An implementation strategy,
• Early benefits and costs for implementation.

The City of Goshen has set the goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.

The Purdue Climate Change Research Center (PCCRC) is coordinating with over 100 experts from dozens of Indiana-based institutions that include scientists and decision makers from across the state to develop a series of reports describing the specific ways changing conditions affect Hoosier families and communities. The Indiana Climate Change Impacts Assessment (IN CCIA) provides accessible, credible climate science to Hoosiers, allowing us to better understand climate change-related risks and build more effective plans for a more productive future.

In 2008, the PCCRC released the first state-level climate assessment titled Impacts of Climate Change for the State of Indiana. This report was developed at the request of Senator Richard G. Lugar as he prepared to vote on national climate change legislation.

The following report  was compiled in 2018 using historical climate data for the State of Indiana.
