Mayor’s Arts Council announced today a $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to Jason Keiser of Goshen, Indiana.
Jason Keiser is a student in the Goshen College Transition to Teaching program with a focus in Art education. “His passion for making an impact in the lives of students will continue to influence the community for decades to come,” said John Mishler, Mayor’s Arts Council member.
“We really didn’t know what to expect out of the gate with this being the first year of the council the first scholarship to be awarded. We were overwhelmed with fantastic applications and we wish we could have awarded $1,000 to each and every candidate,” Amy Worsham, City Arts Coordinator said of the program on Monday, “it was a tough choice for the council members.”
The $1,000 scholarship award was meant to inspire and further the arts in the civic environment. Jason’s essay resonated with the voting council in telling the story of the importance of educators in our community. In talking about working with students he said, “helping an Art student discover their own ability for creative expression is something that other teachers have done for me and I want to pass this gift on to others.”
The Mayor’s Arts Council would like to thank Myron and Dana Bontrager of the Electric Brew for their generous support in jumpstarting this program. MAC hopes to see the scholarship program grow in future years and will announce other opportunities in late winter of 2018.
