The rain falling on Goshen and the surrounding area has already totaled nearly 2.5 inches as of Tuesday afternoon, and another 2-3 inches of rain are forecasted to fall by Wednesday morning. Combining all of this water with areas of frozen soil has caused some stormwater basins to already fill up with stormwater runoff and many areas to become saturated with water. This means some stormwater basins will not be able to handle all of the additional stormwater runoff and flooding of some streets and low areas are expected and is already happening.
The National Weather Service is predicting the Elkhart River will reach a moderate flood stage, which is reached at nine feet deep and it is also the depth at which Chicago Avenue by Kroger will flood. Goshen is currently under a flood warning and for the most up to date information visit: water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=iwx&gage=gshi3.
